Recycling

Households and businesses are now recycling significant volumes of waste which would previously have gone to landfill. Norfolk is today one of the leading counties in Britain in the volume of waste that it recycles.

NEWS' multi-million pound Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre at Costessey, Norwich, can handle up to 90,000 tonnes of dry recyclable waste per annum from domestic collections and its collections from commercial customers, making it one of the largest recycling facilities in the UK and one of the most technically advanced in Europe. This facility is playing a key role in assisting Norfolk to become one of the leading counties in domestic and commercial waste recycling.

The Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre provides sufficient recycling capacity for dry recyclables to enable Local Authorities in Norfolk to achieve Government and EU targets for the reduction in waste going to landfill.

NEWS also has a composting facility and is developing a new facility for the recycling and reuse of general household waste.
