Services for Local Authorities

NEWS receives recyclable, general household and 'green' garden waste from local authority collections.

NEWS processes all of Norfolk's dry recyclable waste, collected from domestic collections. This is processed at NEWS' multi-million pound Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre at Costessey, Norwich. The facility enabled Norfolk's district councils collectively to process over 100,000 tonnes in the first two years after it opened, and now processes approximately 65,000 tonnes per year.

The use of landfills is drastically reducing in Norfolk. NEWS now operates just one landfill site, at Edgefield, for the receipt of general waste.

Up to 20,000 tonnes a year of biodegradable organic or 'green' waste from Household Waste Recycling Centres and domestic collections is processed at our composting facility at Mayton Wood, near Coltishall. The material is processed using an 'in-vessel' method to produce a high quality soil improver that is a sustainable alternative to finite sources of peat for agricultural, horticultural and garden use.

It operates three waste transfer stations, at Costessey, King's Lynn and Caister-on-Sea.
