Costessey Recovery Park
The Costessey Recovery Park is the future of waste management. It comprises NEWS’ Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre and, when constructed, the new Mechanical Biological Treatment plant.
NEWS’ Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre at Costessey has the capacity to process 90,000 tonnes of mixed, dry recyclable materials per annum. The facility is one of the most technologically advanced in Europe.
The heart of the plant is the “V” Screen, the first to be installed in Europe in 2004. This, together with optical, infra-red sorting technology, magnetic and ‘eddy current’ sorters, provides a highly efficient means of screening mixed recyclable waste. The plant can receive a range of mixed dry recyclable waste from local authority domestic collections and source separated collections from commercial customers.
In August 2007 additions to the plant have allowed further sorting of mixed plastic bottles in to three material streams, allowing even better recycling market opportunities.
