Community and Education

NEWS has an active policy of community and education support throughout the county of Norfolk.

Working with the Schools Waste Action Club, regular school parties visit the Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre at Costessey. Here, they use the educational facilities to learn about waste, recycling and the environment, as part of the national curriculum.

NEWS is a leading member of the East Anglian Business Environment Club and works with them to raise awareness and understanding of all matters concerning waste and regularly hosts visits from business and commerce at Costessey. Since the Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre opened, over 3000 visitors have come to view the facility.

Working with the local community, NEWS has supported a number of local schemes such as at Whitlingham Broad, where NEWS has funded the country park warden post and contributes significantly to the development of the park project.

Following changes to Landfill Tax rules, the amount of funding available is now limited. However NEWS continues to support local schemes where possible.
