About NEWS
NEWS is one of the UK’s most forward thinking waste management companies. Based in Norfolk, NEWS operates a number of facilities for the handling of waste from local authority and commercial customers, including the acclaimed Waste Recycling and Transfer Centre in Costessey, Norwich – one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in Europe.
All Norfolk’s dry recyclable waste from domestic collections is processed by NEWS at Costessey and it provides commercial waste collection services to customers all over the county.
NEWS was formed in 1993 as an arms-length company owned by Norfolk County Council. NEWS inherited all of the county’s landfill sites, which have slowly filled up and been closed. NEWS is now committed to developing sustainable waste management practices – encouraging recycling and developing a groundbreaking new mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plant at Costessey that will significantly reduce Norfolk’s reliance on landfills.
It has waste transfer stations at King’s Lynn, Costessey and Caister-on-Sea and an active landfill site at Edgefield, north Norfolk.
